Explore ideas to make your classroom come alive with music and movement through Orff pedagogy. Imagine! Sing, dance, play and explore. The session will offer a variety of step-by-step teaching models using songs, integrated arts materials, and movement activities with a focus on the teaching process. Participants will experience models for presenting materials in a sequential, improvisatory, and logical manner using Orff pedagogy.

Discover fun and innovative ways to engage students of all skill levels, across the music curriculum together in your music program.  We will learn a wide variety of activities that allow you opportunities to assess the students easily through games and differentiated instruction.  Activities will focus on grades K-5 music.

Stephanie Dykeman will facilitate this 90-minute online session. She will share her extensive bibliography of literature-based K-5 lessons for the elementary music classroom. She will discuss ways to adapt several examples in light of current instructional limitations.

Play is the work of childhood, and music is naturally playful! Come and see how play-based music instruction can promote a variety of curricular goals. This workshop highlights fun games for teaching content and assessing student learning in grades PreK through 5th Grade. We will focus on how to adapt materials for the specific challenges of teaching in a pandemic. 

This workshop is free for BHVAOSA members.  The fee for all other in-service educators will be $15.00.

The 21st Century Orff Schulwerk model accentuates the Schulwerk as a hands-on approach that focuses on the joy of elemental music making which emphasizes creativity, facilitates collaborative learning, and provides multiple means of expression of self and material. This workshop presents pieces from the Orff Schulwerk volumes, diverse children’s literature, multicultural songs, folk dances and more, using this model of making instruction and learning more visible.

There’s always a place for creation – a folk dance with a twist, a chance to explore the xylophone, or an opportunity to see what your body can do with one word – but pulling these ideas from our students can be challenging. Let’s go back to the Schulwerk roots of playfulness, discovery, and wonder as we explore these ideas and more through student-led choices, improvisation, risk-taking, and more. We’ll unearth the unexpected, so join us on the journey!
