OMG That’s My Song! Popular Music and Orff Schulwerk
Have you ever wondered how to bring music your students prefer into the classroom? In this workshop, you will learn many ways to Integrate popular music and movement into your classroom through the Schulwerk. From hiphop icebreakers and pop song covers to Fortnite and Just Dance moves and line dances, you will also learn how to create your own materials that make authentic connections to your students and help them learn.

Presenter's Bio:
Martina Vasil is Associate Professor of Music Education at the University of Kentucky, where she directs one of the longest-running Orff courses in the nation. She teaches collegiate courses in general music, popular music education, and qualitative research and teaches music preK–6 at Lexington Montessori School. She is a Fulbright Specialist, an Orff Echo editorial board member, and president of the Association for Popular Music Education. Her PhD and BM are from West Virginia University and her MM from Eastman School of Music. In summer 2022, she taught the first course on Popular Music and Orff Schulwerk at the University of Kentucky (to be offered again in summer 2023).
